By Ananthan
It’s that time of year again. Holiday season in India is coming, with Diwali, the festival of lights just around the corner. This year, the festival season will also be adorned with smartphones aplenty, possibly including the latest Micromax A240 a.k.a the Canvas 5. After recently launching the Canvas 4, to much fanfare and success, and also several leaked images of the Doodle 2, Micromax is set to take the stage with the Canvas 5, whose specifications we have come to know before-hand, and it is rumored to release in late-August, or early-September .
The MMX A240, the Canvas 5 is to hold a 5.7-inch 720p HD display, according to AndroidOS.in, a massive size for the smartphone maker, rivaling the Galaxy Mega 5.8. The phone will be powered by a quad-core MediaTek MT6589 processor, clocked in at 1.2 GHz. It is said to pack 1 GB of RAM, a whooping 16 GB of internal memory, expandable to 64 GB. The phone can click-away with a 12 MP rear camera with LED flash, and a 5 MP secondary camera. The phone will support dual-SIM, which seems to be quite popular in the Indian market for some reason, a 2,600 mAh battery, and will be powered by Android 4.2.
The device is likely to be priced between INR 18,000 and 20,000, and is most likely to be priced around the INR 17,999 on the Micromax Canvas 4, to better compete with the big names entering the market. It is likely to be announced in late-August or early-September, and is rumored to be revealed next week. Micromax has also gained enough popularity in the Indian market, to follow the lines of Samsung and HTC, and begin making customizations of it’s own to make its product stand out. The Canvas 5 will probably carry over the features from the Canvas 4, like the vertical-panorama shot, the flip-to-mute, smart pause, and will probably have features unique to it.
The Holiday season is upon us, and it is a time for excitement. Between the IFA conference in early September, the Micromax launches, rumors of Sony’s new product, and many great new products hitting the market, it is a time to sit back, relax, and enjoy the show.
